In her first solo show, Rosanna Helena Bach opens up a space of magical realism: a translucent, white and grey area where mindful observations of nature coexist with mystical dreams. Inspired as much by animism as by quantum physics, the artist intuitively explores both invisible and physical worlds and investigates the connections between all elements. “The Space Between Us” therefore takes us on a journey into her queries, thoughts and beliefs through a spiritually charged body of work. Etchings as well as glass and wax sculptures commune with natural collected material to form a garden redrawing our sense of reality. A fruit turns into an egg and gives birth to a winged horse. Plants grow on paraffin, rocks become glass and silver lines surface on cuttlefish bones. Are they decaying bodies or radiant talismans? Symbols and meanings float in a mysterious mist.

This exhibition could be experienced as some sort of passage: a place and a movement for meditation and transformation. Rosanna Helena Bach actually cultivates a tender obsession for the concept of liminality. The liminal characterizes various entities standing in between or belonging to two different states or locations. El Luminoso Vacio – a white glass vessel hosted in a white room – brings this reflection to its peak. White itself can be considered a color, the totality of colors and the absence of it. It signifies emptiness and infinite possibilities. Glass too embodies an ambiguous state: being transparent yet reflective, liquid yet solid yet fragile, revealing light into matter yet letting it go through. Besides, just like the small stone it hides in its core, the vessel seems inert but in fact actively grows without the human eye being able to notice it. The exhibited artworks propel us to look out for our environment despite the limits of our perception. They highlight the energies surrounding us: the air we breathe, the thoughts we hide, the doubts we share. The space between us is no void.
