For our fourth participation at Arco Madrid, we are excited to present a solo exhibition by Francisco Trêpa, adapted from his recent show at Galerie Foco, Flor-Cadáver. This exhibition highlights Trêpa’s captivating work, reinterpreted for the scale of the fair booth. Exhibition Concept: Francisco Trêpa’s art immediately evokes a sense of otherworldliness; his pieces appear to belong to another realm, captivating viewers with their unique magnetic field. Flor-Cadáver invites a deep exploration of emotions, inquiries, and autofictions through the lens of the Rafflesia, a parasitic plant known for producing the world’s largest flower, which emits a decomposing odor to attract pollinators. In this exhibition, Trêpa examines the critical role of pollinators in the survival of our planet. The Rafflesia, with its deceptive appearance of death, is the focal point, surrounded by a variety of real and imagined pollinators arranged in diverse narrative scenarios. These elements reflect the human ambiguity as both protector and destroyer of these vital creatures. Threats to pollinators—such as habitat loss, pesticides, and climate change—are addressed through the integration of pollinating drones into the exhibition. These drones, subtly represented through minimal objects and inscriptions, highlight the fusion of the organic and the technological. Trêpa’s work is characterized by a dynamic relationship with matter, where plastic and imaginative elements create new universes. His pieces, in a state of perpetual metamorphosis, offer reflections on nature, landscapes, dreams, and the unpredictability of matter. The artist’s baroque sci-fi approach, merging ornate aesthetics with science fiction concepts, explores the complexity of reality and the collapse of traditional binaries. Flor-Cadáver does not present a defined end but a journey towards embrace and universal connection, transcending species and origins. This exhibition promises to engage visitors with its rich narrative and visual depth, offering a profound reflection on contemporary issues.
