Gabriel Ribeiro was born in 1990 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He holds a BA in Fine Art Practice from Chelsea School of Arts and Design in London and an MA in Sculpture from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon. He currently lives and works between Lisbon and Rio de Janeiro.
His work has been exhibited at institutions such as the Espronceda Institute of Arts and Culture (ES), Galeria Av. Da Índia – Galerias Municipais de Lisboa (PT), Cordoaria Nacional (PT), and in July 2025 he will open a solo exhibition at the Centro Cultural dos Correios in Rio de Janeiro. Ribeiro has also taken part in both solo and group exhibitions in galleries and project spaces in Germany, Portugal, Spain, France, the United States, Mexico, and Brazil.
In 2024, he was awarded a PhD scholarship by FCT – Fundação para Ciência e Tecnologia, where he conducts research supported by the European Fund and the Portuguese Republic. He has been appointed artist-in-residence/fellow at several international art institutions, including Espronceda Institute for Arts and Culture (ES), Schiesslhaus supported by KulturFonds Bayern (DE), GlogauAIR (DE), CO-RESIDENCY (Online/Singapore), Residency 108 (USA), and was a fellowship recipient at the Vermont Studio Center (USA).
He received the Espronceda Institute Prize at SWAB Art Fair in 2022 (ES), the ArtConnect Artist Prize (2022), and the Millennium bcp Youth Art Prize in 2021 (PT).
