Manuel Tainha (b. 1993) lives and works in Lisbon, Portugal. He studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon, and in Anselm Reyle’s class at the University of Fine Arts Hamburg (HFBK). His practice explores the interplay between addition and subtraction, as well as the tension between two- dimensional and object-based approaches. Working across drawing, textiles and found materials, Tainha engages with themes of cultural and geographical identity, architectural constraints, romanticism, and the dualities of fragility and violence within artistic processes.
Tainha has presented his work in both solo and group exhibitions across Europe. Recent shows include Nightsinging at Liceu Camões (Lisbon, 2025), Aurora at IRL Gallery (New-York, USA), LNSJ Part I at L’Atlas (Paris 2025), Arousal at Pram Studio (Prague, 2024), Chest Against the Back at Galeria Foco (Lisbon, 2024), and Notes on Discomfort at Galeria Foco (Lisbon, 2022). He has also exhibited internationally at venues such as Last Resort Gallery (Copenhagen), Collectors Agenda (Vienna), and the Portuguese Embassy in Denmark. His work has been featured in group exhibitions at Plato Gallery (Évora, 2024), Dialogue Gallery (Lisbon, 2024), and Last Resort Gallery (Copenhagen, 2021).
