Bartolomeu Santos uses a wide range of media where objects and senses merge to create a personal and symbolic visual language.
The work is related to the past, but not a past exclusively his own, but a common past; whether from a family, generational or world perspective. The groups are extensive. It is the associations of ideas that form invisible groups.
In this exhibition, he uses these associations of ideas of the past in a personal trajectory.
“ It is difficult to write like this, almost in retrospect of what has not yet happened; but in a way this
is how I see my work: materialising with past, dematerialising it. Confirming the present; that boundless time. “
There is a redemption Bartolomeu tries to have in his work. Exchange and inversion are tools the artist uses to placate his unsatisfied need to create.
The materials in this exhibition also serve the artist as tools to reach the next refuge of the present. A present where he accepts to stay for a while. “Reinforcing what I have already said, it is necessary to remember, in a constant way, that these memory-forming groups are essential.”
